Windham Woods School is a private, non-profit school for children with mild to moderate learning disabilities for grades 1 - 9. Located in the former 10,800 sf Quarry Brook Outdoor Education Center, Windham Woods School was seeking an addition of six classrooms, sized at 500-600 sf to service 60 students within the 9 -12 grades. The design relied on a cohesive architectural style to integrate the new addition into the original structure. RWH was able to mimic the style of the existing structure by replicating the red metal roof, the siding color, and the windows with red frames. The connection piece, bridging the two spaces together, plays off the style of the smaller windows but in a floor-to-ceiling system allowing for this space to be filtered with light. Doors opened for the first day of school in August 2020.
